This summer I'm working for 2 months at Igalia, a spanish free software company, and they assigned me the project of writing a Python binding for MAFW (a new multimedia library that will be included in Freemantle).
After few days I discovered that PyMaemo team was already working to it, so I asked to join them and they accepted me!
I really love Python language and since I think other developers love it too, I think we should provide good bindings for every library available in Maemo, so lot of developers can start writing their applications in this language.
I'll work to this project full time until the first week of september, so I hope to be able to learn a lot and to contribute as much as I can to this project.
If anyone else want to join PyMaemo team and help us to develop Python bindings, I think he will be welcome!

Please open a bug here: https://bugs.maemo.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=PyMaemo
with Severity = “enhancement”, and ask for it to be implemented. If someone is able to do it, he’ll do it.

Done! Another question for you and PyMaemo guys: Any plans on building PyMaemo infrastructure on top of gobject-introspection and pybank and hence collaborating with these projects?

gobject-introspection is not yet supported in the current debian/ubuntu upstream, so it’s not supported in Maemo yet. I think that in the future we’ll move to that method. About pybank I don’t know anything… you should ask to the pymaemo mailing list: https://garage.maemo.org/mail/?group_id=40

Hmm? What do you mean not supported by debian? There are already packages available for it from official debian repos. Anyway, I just think that both yours and these projects will avoid a lot of duplication of efforts if you use and help these projects out instead of making more individual bindings (that will go straight to trashcan when you do start using gobject-introspection). Take it as a friendly advice, not criticism please.

Please, open a “Feature request” bug in Maemo Bugzilla, so the other developers in the team will read it and maybe someone will start to work to it as soon as possible.
